Lotus’s taps into neighbourly spirit through the #KitakanJiran Prihatin Fundraiser

In the spirit of Malaysia Prihatin this upcoming Hari Kebangsaan, Lotuss Stores (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Lotus’s Malaysia), formerly known as Tesco Malaysia, is rolling out a crowdfunding initiative, called the #KitakanJiran Prihatin fund.

Tapping into the Lotus’s #kitakanjiran spirit, the fund aims to scale up the community outreach that Lotus’s has started since early July 2021 through the distribution of the Lotus’s Kotak Prihatin to the underprivileged communities encompassing the B40 groups; the homeless; charity and welfare homes; and those who have risen the #benderaputih.

Hosted on the Sedunia.me crowdfunding platform, the #KitakanJiran Prihatin Fund invites all prihatin Malaysians to make a difference during this Merdeka month by donating any amount into the fund. Every RM50 in donations raised will sponsor one Kotak Prihatin which can sustain a struggling family of four comfortably for a week or more.

The Kotak Prihatin provides families with essentials such as rice, wheat flour, sugar, cooking oil, sardine, vermicelli, honey cereal, Mi Sedaap, Maggie Noodle Curry, Lipton tea, Aik Cheong coffee, kicap, cream crackers, Marie biscuits, sweet creamer, regular Oreos and disposable face mask.

“I’m very pleased to share that in July alone we have distributed as many as 7,400 boxes of Kotak Prihatin to over 50 causes, following the widespread #benderaputih call for help,” said Lotus’s President, Kenneth Chuah. “This Merdeka, we would like to appeal to the Malaysia Prihatin and unity spirit so that together, we can reach out to support even more families in our communities. From now till the end of October, we aim to raise as much as RM1 million so that we can distribute as many as 20,000 Kotak Prihatin and help many more who need it.”

Prior to the launch of #KitakanJiran Prihatin Fund to the public, Lotus’s has already initiated its internal fundraising among its 8,600 Lotus’s colleagues and has pledged over RM300,000 in contribution.

What’s interesting about the #KitakanJiran Prihatin Fund is the ‘Boost’ function available on the Sedunia.me crowdfunding platform. The Boost function allows the public to create their own mini-fundraiser campaign to help support the bigger campaign. This gives them the flexibility of deciding how much they want to raise, and a unique URL that they can share with family and friends.

“We’re excited to see the creativity that will come out from Malaysians in utilizing this mini-fundraiser campaign as we unite in our concern and welfare for those who are struggling through this ongoing pandemic,” continued Chuah.

All donations raised via the support-fundraiser campaign will go into the overall fund and will be converted to Kotak Prihatin for families and individuals in need during the pandemic.
