Lotus's Malaysia debuts first flagship store in Kepong

Lotuss Stores (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (formerly known as Tesco Stores (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd) (Lotus’s Malaysia) launched its first flagship store in Kepong earlier today. Located in the mall formerly known as Kepong Village Mall in Bandar Menjalara, Lotus’s Kepong now bears the vibrant colors of Lotus’s green and yellow signifying the vibrant and dynamic direction that Lotus’s Malaysia intends to go on.

Lotus’s Malaysia is the new brand that comes out from the acquisition of Tesco Malaysia by Thailand-based multinational conglomerate, Charoen Pokphand Group Co Ltd (C.P. Group) back in December 2020. Through the acquisition, Lotus’s Malaysia now assumes Tesco’s existing operations which include employing over 8,600 employees across one head office, two distribution centres, and 62 stores throughout Peninsular Malaysia. It also has Malaysia’s most extensive online grocery home shopping network with over 100 delivery trucks and operations in Penang, Johor Bahru, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, and Ipoh.

C.P. Group meanwhile, is a multinational conglomerate, operating across various industries ranging from agricultural, industrial to service sectors. It currently operates 14 business groups and has investments in 21 countries and economies.

Speaking at the launch, Lotus’s Malaysia President Kenneth Chuah explained the silent ‘s’ in the company’s name: “Lotus’s and not “Lotuses” as we would like to be called is all about giving our customers SMART selections that would delight them. The apostrophe you see in our name is a drop pin that signifies your go-to destination for all your needs and wants and the ‘s’ represents our SMART values, the behaviour that guides us in bringing delight to Malaysian customers and to continue winning their trust,” he said.
