Lotuss Stores (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Lotus’s Malaysia), enters into a 20 years Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Altervim Co. Ltd (Altervim) until year 2042, starting from 30 March 2023. This agreement launches the retailer into its Phase 3 for installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels on the rooftops of 21 Lotus’s stores and its Ambient Distribution Centre in Bukit Beruntung. 

“Once the installation is completed in September 2023, the solar PV panels will collectively generate 150,000,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean energy per year, which is equivalent to lighting up more than 3,500 houses annually. The clean energy generated will offset a total of 9,585 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere”, said Lotus’s Malaysia President, Mr. Kenneth Chuah.

Altervim will fully invest in the 22 solar PVs which includes the design, installation, operation and maintenance of the solar PV systems. Plus Xnergy Sdn Bhd has been appointed as the local Clean Energy Specialist for this project. 

Besides the Ambient Distribution Center in Bukit Beruntung, the 21 stores which will be fitted with the solar PV panels through the Lotus’s – Altervim PPA are: 

Lotus’s Malaysia’s entered into its first PPA with NE Suria Satu Sdn Bhd (NESS), a joint-venture company of PETRONAS and NEFIN Group in 2020. It involved the installation of solar PV panels on 15 of its stores. The retailer then went to its second PPA with with NEFIN Group in 2022, to install solar PV panels on another 13 of its stores. 

“Through the Lotus’s-Altervim PPA, this makes Lotus’s Malaysia the largest commercial solar PV installation in Malaysia to date,” Kenneth further added. 

Lotus’s Malaysia currently operates 65 stores and two distribution centers in Peninsular Malaysia. With the first, second and the current PPA combined, the retailer will now have a total of 49 stores and 1 Distribution Center, making 75% of Lotus’s facilities powered with solar by end 2023, reinforcing the company’s commitment towards its carbon neutral goal by 2030. 

Over the years, the retailer has invested in energy efficiency initiatives within its operations through the use of LED lightings and more energy efficient air conditioning and refrigeration in its stores and distribution centers. 

Lotuss Stores (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Lotus’s Malaysia), memeterai Perjanjian Pembelian Kuasa (PPA) selama 20 tahun dengan Altervim Co.Ltd (Altervim) sehingga tahun 2042, bermula dari 30 Mac 2023. Perjanjian ini melancarkan Lotus’s Malaysia ke dalam Fasa 3 untuk pemasangan panel fotovoltaik (PV) solar di 21 bumbung stor Lotus’s dan Pusat Pengedaran Ambien di Bukit Beruntung. 

“Secara kolektif, pemasangan panel solar PV yang bakal siap pada September 2023 akan menjana sebanyak 150,000,000 kilowatt-jam (kWj) tenaga bersih setahun. Ini bersamaan dengan pencahayaan lebih daripada 3,500 rumah setiap tahun. Tenaga bersih yang dijana ini akan dapat mengimbangi sejumlah 9,585 tan CO2 ke atmosfera,” kata Presiden Lotus’s Malaysia, Encik Kenneth Chuah.

Altervim akan melabur sepenuhnya dalam 22 solar PV yang merangkumi reka bentuk, pemasangan, operasi dan penyelenggaraan sistem solar PV. Manakala, Plus Xnergy Sdn Bhd telah dilantik sebagai Pakar Tenaga Bersih tempatan untuk projek ini. 

Selain dari Pusat Pengedaran Ambien di Bukit Beruntung, 21 stor Lotus’s yang turut dilengkapi panel solar PV melalui PPA Lotus’s – Altervim adalah:

Lotus’s Malaysia memeterai PPA pertamanya dengan NE Suria Satu Sdn Bhd (NESS), sebuah syarikat usaha sama PETRONAS dan Kumpulan NEFIN pada tahun 2020. Ia melibatkan pemasangan panel solar PV pada 15 stornya. Lotus’s Malaysia kemudian memeterai PPA keduanya dengan NEFIN Group pada tahun 2022, untuk pemasangan panel solar PV di 13 lagi stornya. 

“PPA Lotus’s -Altervim ini akan posisi Lotus’s Malaysia sebagai satu pemasangan solar PV komersial yang terbesar di Malaysia setakat ini,” tambah Kenneth. 

Lotus’s Malaysia kini mengendalikan 65 buah stor dan dua pusat pengedaran di Semenanjung Malaysia. Dengan gabungan PPA pertama, kedua dan yang terkini, 75% daripada fasiliti Lotus’s (49 stor and 1 pusat pengedaran) akan dikuasakan dengan solar pada akhir tahun 2023, secara langsung mengukuhkan komitmen syarikat ke arah matlamat karbon neutral menjelang tahun 2030. 

Sejak beberapa tahun yang lalu, Lotus’s Malaysia telah menabur dalam inisiatif kecekapan tenaga dalam operasinya melalui penggunaan lampu LED, pendingin hawa dan penyejuk (refrigerant) yang lebih cekap di stor dan pusat pengedarannya.
